Most photos displayed in the office depict happy times and pleasant memories. A few years back Senior Recruiter Cynthia Scheppach decided that images capturing some of the saddest moments of her life would better suit her role and sense of office decor. It’s surprising to enter her office and see a picture of her on her wedding day mere seconds after she learned the groom had run out, but there’s a method to her madness.
“I think the photos put interview candidates at ease,” Cynthia said, smiling broadly. “I hope they look at the picture of me at my cousin’s funeral, or the one where I’m getting bitten by that monkey in Costa Rica or falling off the dais while a contestant on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and think ‘You know what? She’s human, too.’”
She’s remarkably upbeat for someone who has a photograph of herself and an older cat, as it’s being put to sleep, hanging above her computer’s monitor. “What can I say, I’m a cat person,” Cynthia said, laughing and clandestinely wiping a small tear from her eye.
